Oh my heavens, muffins, it will be a busy night, indeed – bring your snacks, and send the gin!!!
The Councillors will be getting a head start behind closed doors at 5pm, so their tender tushies will be even more tired than mine. They'll let us start to observe at the normal 7pm start time.
There will be deputations about the Fireworks bylaw change, the speed limit on Lakeshore Drive, and that gawdawful tacky homage to a certain fallen Councillor's still-yet-to-fall ego.
And then we have ALLLLLLL the things from last week's meetings, starting with the report from the in camera General Committee meeting from May 31. And guess what came out of that? A huge commendation for CAO Prowse, for all his hard work during this pesky pandemic, and for stick handling the City through these difficult times. Congratulations, CAO Prowse – and call me for drinks sometime, dahrling!! (One curiosity with this announcement is the 2nd part of that clause: "That the Director of Human Resources be directed to document CAO Prowse's commendation in accordance with the direction provided during the closed portion of the meeting held on May 31, 2021." WHY ALL THE CLOAK AND DAGGER, Muffins???)
Next is the Planning Committee Report from June 1, which we send hopes and prayers will be quick and painless. Because following that is the General Committee Report from June 7, which has SECTIONS A THROUGH I, and you just KNOW there's going to be an unholy craptonne of opportunity for blustering and pontification. This includes the 2022 Budget Directions, which never go quickly, the Transportation Asset Management Plan, and that aforementioned gawdawful testament to a gawdawful ego.
Then on to the presentations! (Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the gin cupboard...)
The first will be the very first semi-annual update from the newly-minted Anti-Racism Task Force – who have their work cut out for them, darlings, and an uphill climb, and an upstream swim, and all sorts of other exhausting metaphors.
And finally, the Downtown Barrie BIA, who were ASKED to prepare a presentation on their GOVERNANCE MODEL, vision, and objectives have instead opted to give a presentation "concerning creating a safe and vibrant place to shop, live and play", because... sigh... Governance, Shmovernance.
